If you're still using an Xbox 360 console, it might be time to start stocking up on digital games. Microsoft has recently published a new Xbox 360 update that includes some changes to the platform. One of the most notable changes is the redesign of several Gamerpic avatar images from the Xbox 360 console era. These iconic images have been given a next-gen treatment and made available for use on the latest Xbox consoles.

When the Xbox 360 was released in 2005, a 72x72 pixel Gamerpic size was more than enough. But with the advent of the 4K Xbox Series X, these tiny images would look out of place. That's why Microsoft has remade some of its classic icons for the new console generation. Some of the redesigned images include a ninja, a pirate, a zombie, and even a unicorn.

A Microsoft spokesperson recently spoke to video game outlet Gematsu, informing them of several games that will no longer be purchasable on the Xbox 360 platform. This is a clear sign that Microsoft is moving away from the older console and focusing more on the newer ones.

But that doesn't mean that the Xbox 360 is completely obsolete. In fact, it's been a rather eclectic week of gaming, with a brand new Xbox 360 being used to play the old Avatar tie-in, SpongeBob SquarePants, and other classic games. The console may be old, but it still has a loyal following.

In a bit of a surprise move, Microsoft has also made some of its classic Gamerpics available for use on the newer consoles. These images are a blast from the past for longtime Xbox fans and are sure to stir up some nostalgia. Some of the remade images include the classic "thumbs up" and "peace sign" images, as well as several new designs.

Xbox engineer Eden Marie recently tweeted that she had developed a way for Xbox 360 owners to import their last-used Gamerpic onto newer devices. This is great news for anyone who wants to keep using their old images on the latest consoles. Marie's tweet received a lot of attention, with many Xbox fans expressing their gratitude for her work.

Overall, the Xbox 360 may be an old console, but it still has a lot of life left in it. With classic games still available and new updates bringing next-gen features to the platform, it's clear that Microsoft is committed to keeping the console relevant. And with the remade Gamerpics available for use on newer consoles, Xbox fans can relive their favorite memories from the past.
