"The Haunting of Bly Manor is a calm, loving study in how to exorcise your ghosts. It's less haunting — and less haunted — than Hill House, but it is ultimately a good deal more satisfying, and it whets the appetite for any future installments. It's a very restful haunting. It's not horror. The only terrifying things are the accents and the language."
An American au pair in England lands a job caring for two kids in a mysterious mansion. While it may not be as scary as its predecessor, The Haunting of Bly Manor offers plenty of spooky moments and a strong sense of heart. The highly anticipated second chapter of The Haunting anthology series was released on Netflix on Oct. 9.
This fireside ghost story is deftly told, with a sumptuous setting and surprises aplenty. The Haunting of Bly Manor unspools slowly, weaving together a remarkably effective meditation on grief, trauma, and love. Although not quite as good as Hill House, it is still entertaining and satisfying in its own right.
