Video game fans around the world were delighted when Larian Studios announced the upcoming release of Baldur's Gate 3 on PlayStation 5. The highly anticipated game was first revealed at a State of Play event, with Larian Studios providing details about the game and its release date.

The game is a sequel to Baldur's Gate 2 and is set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. Players will take control of a party of adventurers, exploring the Sword Coast, a region of the Forgotten Realms. Combat will be turn-based and feature a unique 'interactive' system that allows players to make choices on the fly. Players will also be able to customize their characters, including their race, class, and alignment.

Baldur's Gate 3 will take place in a world filled with danger and intrigue. Players will explore a world filled with monsters, traps, and secrets, while also fighting off the minions of evil forces. The game will also feature a morality system, allowing players to make decisions that affect the outcome of the game.

The release date for Baldur's Gate 3 on PlayStation 5 has been set for August 2020. This is the same date that the game will release for PC. The PlayStation 5 version of the game will boast improved visuals and performance, as well as exclusive content.

The game will also be available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X, although no release date has been announced for these platforms yet.

In addition to the release date, Larian Studios also revealed the first gameplay trailer for Baldur's Gate 3. The trailer hinted at the game's story, as well as the various characters and creatures players will encounter in the game.

For some context, GTA 5 launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 literal months before the release of PS4 and Xbox One, meaning the install base was already pretty large. The same might not be the case for Baldur's Gate 3. The new game does not yet have a title, release date, platforms, or pricing.

In any case, Microsoft noted in its latest response to the CMA (PDF) that it has offered to 'provide Sony with parity on release date, price, and promotional opportunities', meaning it's likely PlayStation and Xbox gamers will be able to play the game on the same day.

This is great news for fans of the series, as the last game in the Baldur’s Gate series, Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, was released in 2013. After a long wait, fans can finally look forward to a new installment of the beloved RPG series.

The PlayStation 3 was a console that faced a pretty rocky launch when it was first released. Despite this, the console was home to some of the most iconic games of all time. It's easily the most ambitious game on the console to date and is sure to be a hit.
